The concert “Uma Viagem Pelo Fado” (A Journey through Fado) is the high point of the celebrations of the 22nd anniversary of Loulé becoming a city on 1st February.
The concert with António Pinto Basto and José Gonçalez includes some of the great fado classics such as “Júlia Florista”, “Belos Tempos”, “Canos do Tejo”, “Canto o Fado”, “Nem às Paredes Confesso”, and numbers from the fado repertoire such as “Portela”, “Rosa Branca”, “Mestre Alentejano”, “Bate Coração” and “Brasões de Portugal”.
The music starts at 21.30 at the Convento de Santo António and admission is free. There is also sport for the children.
From 10.00 to 16.30 beside the Monumento Eng.º Duarte Pacheco, there will be a number of recreational and sporting activities for school students as part of the “Active School” project.
“Escola Activa” is an initiative arising from the partnership between a number of regional bodies; it is part of the National Programme against Child Obesity and it began last year in different schools in the Algarve, with the aim of improving the quality and quantity of physical and sporting activity done by pupils.
Loulé has been a city for 22 years
On 13th August 1987, the proposal was presented for making Loulé a city signed by the PSD deputies Mendes Bota and Cristóvão Norte. On 1st February 1988, the aspirations of the people of Loulé were achieved through the decree of the Assembly of the Republic which approved the elevation of Loulé to the status of a city.
